Today in Music: 02/25/19

TODAY IN MUSIC: “Take a Bow” by Madonna began a 7-week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 25, 1995. “Take a Bow”, a ballad written and produced with Babyface, was released as the second single from @madonna‘s sixth studio album Bedtime Stories (1994) and became her eleventh #1 single. The song also appears on Madonna’s compilation albums Something to Remember (1995), GHV2 (2001) and Celebration (2009). Surprisingly, although “Take a Bow” is her longest running number-one hit, she never sang it on any of her concert tours until February 4, 2016, when she performed the song during the Taipei stop of the Rebel Heart Tour. The music video, filmed in Ronda, Spain, is one of her most iconic and won Best Female Video at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. At Madonna’s suggestion, the song was recorded with a full orchestra. It was the first time @Babyface had worked with live strings. Another note: The words “take a bow” are the first words in the lyrics and are never repeated again in the song.
