The song reached number 11 on the UK Singles Chart – the first time he failed to reach the top ten in his home country. Additionally, it was a top 5 hit in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain. Altogether, the single spent six weeks in the top ten, nine weeks in the top twenty, and 14 weeks in the top forty. “Father Figure” is one of his most popular songs and still receives a high level of radio airplay. The song has been sampled by P.M. Dawn for their song, “Looking Through Patient Eyes” (1993), LL Cool J for his song, “Father” (1997) and by Destiny’s Child for their song, “Winter Paradise” from the 2001 holiday album, 8 Days of Christmas. The UK single’s B-side features a live version of Michael’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s In Need of Love Today” from Wonder’s 1976 album, Songs in the Key of Life. #georgemichael #fatherfigure #faith #faithalbum #faithgeorgemichael #billboardhit #pmdawn #llcoolj #destinyschild #lookingthroughpatienteyes #father #winterparadise #steviewonder #songsinthekeyoflife #lovesinneedoflovetoday #tonyatlarge #eclectimaniac #musichistory #todayinmusic
