TODAY IN MUSIC: On March 5, 1977, Barbra Streisand started a three-week run at #1 with “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born)”. The song was composed by Streisand with lyrics by Paul Williams and arranged by Ian Freebairn-Smith. The song was Streisand’s second number song (following The Way We Were in 1974). At the 49th Annual Academy Awards, “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born)” won the Oscar for Best Original Song, making Barbra Streisand the first woman to earn an Academy Award for composing music and the only woman to win Academy Awards for Best Actress (Funny Girl) and Best Original Song. The song also won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female and Song of the Year (in a tie with Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life”). Lady Gaga duplicated Streisand’s Golden Globe and Academy Award wins for “Shallow”, the theme Gaga composed with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt, for the 2018 remake of “A Star Is Born” with Bradley Cooper. Interestingly, on the chart released March 4, 2019, “Shallow” has shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the exact same week as “Evergreen” did (post-Oscar telecast). #evergreen #astarisborn #evergreenlovethemefromastarisborn #barbrastreisand #paulwilliams #ianfreebairnsmith #academyaward #oscar #bestoriginalsong #bestactress #composer #goldenglobe #markronson #anthonyrossomando #andrewwyatt #shallow #1 #numberone #tonyatlarge #eclectimaniac #todayinmusic #musichistory
