TODAY IN MUSIC: “Would I Lie to You?”, the lead single from Eurythmics’ fourth studio album Be Yourself Tonight, was released on April 4, 1985. The song and album would feature a shift in musical direction for the group from their early synthpop work to a more rock oriented sound. Recorded in Paris, the album enlisted an impressive group of collaborators, including members of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, Stevie Wonder, Dean Garcia, Aretha Franklin and Elvis Costello. “Would I Lie to You?” continued their worldwide chart dominance, reaching the top ten in the United States, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden and hitting #1 in Australia. The video, directed by Mary Lambert, was a heavy MTV favorite. #eurythmics #wouldilietoyou #beyourselftonight #paris #theheartbreakers #steviewonder #deangarcia #arethafranklin #elvisconstello #marylambert #mtv #tonyatlarge #eclectimaniacradioshow #todayinmusic #musichistory
