TODAY IN MUSIC: On April 5, 1975, “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Released as the fourth single from her second studio album Perfect Angel, the song was written by Riperton and husband, Richard Rudolph. Production was handled by Rudolph and Stevie Wonder who, due to contractual restraints with Motown, co-produced the album under the pseudonym “El Toro Negro”. “Lovin’ You” is one of only a handful of number one songs with no percussion. Others include “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce and “Yesterday” by The Beatles. The song went on to become the album’s most successful track and Riperton’s biggest hit and signature song. Riperton and Rudolph are the parents of actress/comedian Maya Rudolph. #minnieriperton #lovinyou #billboardhot100 #perfectangel #richardrudolph #steviewonder #eltoronegro #motown #timeinabottle #jimcroce #yesterday #thebeatles #mayarudolph #tonyatlarge #eclectimaniacradioshow #todayinmusic #musichistory
