TODAY IN MUSIC: “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In”, from the musical Hair by James Rado and Gerome Ragni (lyrics) and Galt MacDermot (music) and released as a single by the The 5th Dimension, reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 12, 1969. Produced by Bones Howe, the song was one of the most popular of 1969 all over the world. The idea to record the medley came after the group saw a production of Hair in New York. “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” was included on the group’s 4th studio album, The Age of Aquarius. The recording won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Group. The lyrics are based on the astrological belief that the world would eventually enter the “Age of Aquarius”, an age of love, light and humanity. “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” held the number one spot for a total of six weeks. #fifthdimension #5thdimension #aquariusletthesunshinein #aquarius #letthesunshinein #boneshowe #billboardhot100 #hair #jamesrado #geromeragni #galtmacdermot #theageofaquarius #grammy #recordoftheyear #astronomy #love #light #humanity #tonyatlarge #eclectimaniacradioshow #todayinmusic #musichistory
