Originally written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell, the song was recorded by Mr. Charles in 1960 for his album The Genius Hits the Road and has been hailed as the definitive version. Willie Nelson also recorded “Georgia On My Mind” to great success for his 1978 album Stardust. Both versions reached number one (Charles on the Hot 100 and Nelson on the Country chart) with Willie Nelson’s rendition earning a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
